1982

Marta Kasprzyszak is born in Trzebnica, Poland on October 13th. She and her family immigrate to Canada on a sponsorship eight years later.

Brock’s Childhood

Brock Picken has a passion for health, fitness, and sport from a very young age. Being involved in every sport his single mother can afford, he excels at baseball and tennis.

Marta’s Childhood

As a young girl, Marta doesn’t play any organized sports and dislikes school gym classes, because they are mainly sport-specific and competitive. She does enjoy recreational activities such as bike riding, camping, hiking and swimming. As a youth, Marta dedicates most of her time to friends and the activities she once loved as a young girl stop. She leads a sedentary and unhealthy lifestyle for years to come.

1997

Brock dislocates his shoulder during a high school baseball game, which requires physiotherapy and rotator cuff rehabilitation in a gym. He falls in love with the science of the body, and enrolls in a Sports and Exercise Management Major at Brock University.

1998

Brock enjoys being competitive in sports while rowing on the University team, and enjoys the off-season training in the gym so much he becomes certified as a personal trainer. He soon begins working for local gyms and then discovers natural bodybuilding. He enjoys over 4 years on the competitive stage.

2002

Personal experiences motivate Marta to pursue Social Work as a career. She enrolls in Child and Youth Work at Humber College, and graduates 3 years later with Honours.

2004

After a number of years of training for many corporate fitness clubs, and becoming a Course Conductor and Practical Assessor for the Certified Professional Trainers Network, Brock enters a radio contest, which has life-changing results.

The Wheel of Gluttony and Creation of Brock’s Ultimate Fitness (BUF)

A Toronto radio station is holding a contest, called “The Wheel of Gluttony.” People have to perform crazy stunts and challenges to qualify for a spot on a wheel, which is spun at the end of the month. The winner of the spin walks away with the grand prize. The challenge Brock chooses to partake in is called “weight gain.” Whoever gains the most weight in one week gets a spot on the wheel. Brock dehydrates himself first, before the initial weigh-in, giving him a 10-pound advantage. The day before he does a sodium-load to retain water. The result is a 40-pound weight gain in less than one week! This gives Brock a spot on the wheel with 41 other people. A few weeks later when they spin the wheel, it first lands on someone’s number who is not there. When they spin it again it lands on 33 (Brock’s lucky number) and ironically his number on the wheel. He wins $10,000 and two Mazda automobiles, giving him the ability to pay off student loans and finance the birth of his own personal training business, BUF.

2005

Marta first gets motivated to become active when someone tells her that she’ll “never do it.” While reflecting deeper, Marta realizes she needs to stop being “afraid” and for once decides to step out of her comfort zone and try something new and challenging. The next day, she buys books and fills her mind with new knowledge about fitness, nutrition, and anatomy.

Spring 2006

Encompassing a healthy and active lifestyle is liberating and awakens Marta’s inner strength. She enjoys challenging her body, mind, and spirit and reaching goals that once seemed impossible. In May, Marta completes her first half-marathon. Her passion for learning and working with people continues and she enrolls at York University in the Social Work Program. She graduates in 2009 with Honours.

Summer 2006, Love at First Sight

It is the one-year anniversary of Marta officially joining her local gym, where she is pushing through a challenging workout. And for the first time at that same gym, Brock is also enjoying a workout. While lying on a bench and lifting a heavy bar over his head, Brock is suddenly ‘greeted’ with a crash. Marta, distracted by her music, had lifted a bar off of a rack and turned directly into the bar Brock was lifting. It is “love at first sight,” and the rest is history.

December 2007, Bike to Beat Obesity

Marta and Brock discuss their passion for health and fitness and their desire to raise awareness about an important cause: Childhood Obesity. They come up with the idea of cycling across Canada to raise awareness, and funds for a worthy organization, The SickKids Hospital. Brock adds the idea of wearing a 40 lb weight vest to increase awareness, and they name their fundraiser “Bike to Beat Obesity”, sponsored by Kinetico Canada.

July 2008

With Brock cycling and Marta driving the support vehicle, the couple take one month to travel from Toronto, ON to Victoria, BC, a distance of 4500 km (2800 miles) and are interviewed on many major television and radio stations, including CityTV Toronto, Breakfast Television Calgary, the FAN 590 Toronto, and Talk Radio 1010 Toronto. They raise over $25,000 for SickKids Hospital. The day after the fundraiser Brock proposes to Marta. She says, “Is this a joke?” After the shock wears off Marta says YES!

December 2009

After becoming inspired by Gary Vaynerchuk’s “Thunder show”, Marta and Brock immediately start planning their own video blog. “We’re passionate about health and fitness. We both enjoy challenging ourselves: physically, mentally, and spiritually. We’re excited to share our knowledge, learning, and experiences with the world! Fit For Two TV is the next step in a lifelong journey where we strive to inspire and empower others to lead happy and healthy lives.”

Together, Marta and Brock are "Fit For Two." Working out and preparing meals as a couple or with a partner (even if you have different health and fitness goals) is an easy way to stay motivated, spend quality time together, stay in awesome shape through the years, relieve stress, boost mood and stamina, and even saves you money (such as working out at-home, going for a hike, creating a new meal in the kitchen instead of dining out, and plenty more).

February 2010

Marta and Brock watch the academy award nominated documentary Food, Inc. and make a commitment to vegetarianism. (Note: The journey to here started long ago).

April 2010

Fit For Two TV went live on April Fool’s Day. No really, it did.

October 2010

Marta and Brock tie the knot on October 2nd, 2010 at EastDell Estates Winery in Beamsville, Ontario. Rustic. Elegant. Romantic. The day was everything they envisioned, rain and all. They were swept off their feet by the heartfelt Same Day Edit (SDE) wedding video that Love Madly presented at the reception dinner. Holley Maher, an artist from Nashville, released her song “Always Be” early to compliment the SDE. It was a match made in heaven. Watch it below:
